Conference venues

On Thursday morning the opening ceremony and the first keynote speech of the conference will be held at the Waalse Kerk (the same venue as where the Policy Day is being held). The parallel sessions and the other two keynote speeches will be held at the Oudemanhuispoort, from Thursday afternoon till Saturday afternoon.

Lunch will be served at the Bushuis for the entire conference. Special events are a Canal Cruise on Thursday evening, which will leave from Holland International Cruises, and a Diner on Friday evening, which will be held at the Dominican Church.

Apart from the diner and canal cruise location, all conference locations are close to each other. The following five locations will be visited (see details further below):

  1. Waalse Kerk: Walenpleintje 159, Amsterdam - Thur. morning, 9:00 - 12:15 hr.
  2. Oudemanhuispoort: Oudemanhuispoort 4-6 - Thur. afternoon till Sat. afternoon 16:00 hr.
  3. Bushuis: Kloveniersburgwal 48 - Lunch every day
  4. Holland International Cruises: Prins Hendrikkade 33 - Thurs. evening 18:00 hr.
  5. Dominicuskerk: Spuistraat 12, Amsterdam - Friday evening, 19:00 hr.

 

1. Opening - Thursday morning

The opening of the conference will be in the Waalse Kerk (Waalse Church). The church was built in 1409 and originally used as a chapel for the ‘Paulusbrothers monastery’. The church is located at a small plaza right at the ‘Oudezijds Achterburgwal’.

Coming from Amsterdam Central Station it’s a ten minutes walk. Follow the ‘Damrak’ until you reach the ‘Dam’. Take a left turn into the ‘Damstraat’. Go right at the second canal on the other side of the wate, this is the ‘Oudezijds Achterburgwal’. After 20 meters you will find the ‘Walenpleintje’ and the church at your left side.

Coming from the direction of Utrecht. From Amsterdam Amstel Trainstation take the metro in the direction of central station and exit the metro at ‘Nieuwmarkt’ station. Take the exit ‘Nieuwe Hoogstraat’. Turn left into the ‘Nieuwe Hoogstraat’ and follow the street for some minutes. Turn left at the second bridge, into the ‘Oudezijds Achterburgwal’. After twenty meters you will find the ‘Walenpleintje’ and the church at your left side.

 

2. Conference - from Thursday till Saturday afternoon

The maim part of the conference will take place in the historic university building the ‘Oudemanhuispoort’.

Coming from the Waalse Kerk you go left and follow the Oudezijds Achterburgwal. After the first bridge and just before the second bridge, you find a porch at your left hand side (see image above). This is the Oudemanshuispoort.

Coming from Amsterdam Central Station you can take tram 4, 9, 16, 24 or 25, get out at the second stop called ‘Spui’. Cross the street and pass by canal cruise company ‘Kooij’, into a small street called the Langebrugsteeg. Follow this street until you can’t continue, this is the Oudezijds Achterburgwal. Go left and turn to the right after approx. 5 meters, under the porch that you see at the picture. This is the Oudemanhuispoort.

 

3. Lunch

Lunch will be served at the Bushuis.

The Bushuis is located close to the Waalse Kerk and the Oudemanhuispoort.

Coming from the Waalse Kerk you turn left and take the second alley ‘Spinhuissteeg’.

Coming from the Oudemanhuispoort. With your back to the conference building, standing inside the hallway called Oudemanhuispoort, you turn left. Once you are outside you are at the Kloveniersburgwal. Turn left at Kloveniersburgwal and continue till you find number 48.

 

 

4. Canal Cruise

The canal cruise, offered to us by the Amsterdam City Council will leave from Holland International Rondvaart. The pier is located opposite the central railway station.

On Thursday we will meet in front of the Oudemanhuispoort at 17.30 hrs and walk there together.

5. Dinner

The Dinner will take place on Friday evening and will be held in the building of the Dominican Church.
