About the photo: Herring caught near Texel by beach seining. In Dutch called "haring zegen", the technique was employed when the herring was spotted close inshore. Up to thirty men might work one seine.
Photo taken in 1935 by an unknown photographer. The original is kept at SpaarnestadPhoto (Haarlem).
