Keynote Speakers

G. de Peuter

Ir. Ger de Peuter, Deputy Director Fisheries of the Department of agriculture, nature and food quality, presented the opening address on ‘conflicts, threats and opportunities in European fisheries’.

Irene Odotei

Dr. Irene Odotei, of the University of Ghana presented the first keynote address. Dr. Odotei’s presentation was also the second lecture in The Tropical Maritimes Lecture Series that was inaugurated at MARE’s 2001 conference by Dr. John Kurien. Her address was entitled ‘crossing boundaries: the challenges of migrant fishermen and women in West Africa’.

Peter Burbridge

On day two, Dr. Peter Burbridge of the University of Newcastle (United Kingdom) presented a keynote address on ‘the many faces of integrated coastal zone management: lessons from Europe and Asia’.

Alfred Soons

Dr. Alfred Soons of the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS) presented a third keynote address on International law, climate change and the rising sea level: Effects on maritime limits and boundaries.
